We tend to see more singles, couples without kids and assignees who may be fresh from an internship or in the beginning stages of their career, and in general a much more budget-conscious clientele.

We establish a personal connection, learn about each client and tailor area orientations specifically to them. What are their essential criteria for finding accommodation – is permanent accommodation even the goal? Many clients nowadays look for shorter-term (serviced apartment) accommodation. ‘Well connected’ now doesn’t only refer to transport access but also to areas featuring better sustainability and community initiatives. Rather than exploring the traditional family-friendly housing and recreation areas, we check out some more ‘authentic’ locations, allowing clients to understand local flavour and very importantly, scale and distance first hand - something that’s virtually impossible to understand solely from a digital experience.
We visit areas concentrating on community aspects, such as arts, design and entertainment. We explore car-lite transport routes and options, such as ‘Park Connector’ shared paths for bikes and scooters. Increasingly we find clients who are keen to explore areas featuring shared work facilities as more assignees and their accompanying partners may be looking to set up workspaces in non-traditional office environments.

Each area then prompts discussion of related digital services, including apps and sites for online supermarkets, entertainment streaming, food delivery, laundry and cleaning services, furniture and household item sales and swaps, travel and transport, social and recreational ‘meet-ups’ and even food-specific translation sites for regional travel – which can be a lifesaver for clients with food allergies and intolerances.
Most assignees arrive in their destination city having done some amount of online homework, particularly in regard to housing. However, many property search sites are notoriously unreliable and can be misleading for anyone not familiar with local industry practices and jargon, which leads to misaligned expectations when it comes to the actual home-search process. We work with any prior knowledge, as a ‘jumping-off point’ and then provide insight into interpreting the data. We manage expectations regarding not only the potential accommodation but most importantly the process and practices.
