Framework for Visa and Immigration Law

  • Law of the People’s Republic of China on the Administration of Exit and Entry 2013.

Approval Authority

  • City Labour Bureau, City Entry, and Exit Bureau of the Public Security Bureau.

Areas of Risk

  • New regulations commenced April 1, 2017, very significant changes
  • Training on the new regulations within Approval Authority incomplete, understanding patchy, very little room for discretion
  • Work Permit and Resident Permit valid only for employment in the city where the legal entity is registered
  • Maximum age restrictions (again not uniform but generally) 55 for women and 60 for men

Processing Times (principal visa category for international assignments)

  • 2 – 3 months after all documents have been obtained.
